On November 17, 2025, the International Youth Forum on Creativity and Heritage Along the Silk Roads was officially held in Nanjing. The forum was jointly organized by UNESCO, the National Commission of the People's Republic of China for UNESCO, the World Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centers and Associations, and the Nanjing Municipal People’s Government. It brought together youth representatives, officials of international organizations, and cultural heritage experts from countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative to engage in an in-depth dialogue on the theme of “Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship—Youth Promoting Heritage Protection and Inheritance”, to jointly explore innovative approaches to cultural heritage preservation. Since its launch in 2017, the forum has attracted more than 700 young participants from 138 countries worldwide, and has gradually become an important platform for international youth exchange and dialogue among civilizations.

Ji Tiejun, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Nanjing Municipal Committee and Head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Nanjing Municipal Committee, pointed out in his speech that Nanjing, as an important hub city at the intersection of the Belt and Road Initiative, has established sister-city relationships with cities in 52 participating countries. Nanjing is home to more than 50 universities and over one million university students, making it a city full of youth, innovation, and vitality. An increasing number of young people from around the world come here, where the echoes of history resonate with the pulse of modernity, collectively writing the future for cultural inheritance. Du Yue, Secretary-General of the World Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centers and Associations, emphasized: “We not only have the responsibility to protect world heritage, but also have the responsibility to pass it on.” He pointed out that although people live in different countries and regions, they share the same planet as their home. Cultural heritage is a vivid embodiment of the diversity of civilizations, and young people should not merely be bystanders in heritage conservation but should become active participants and inheritors. Ren Youqun, Vice Minister of Education, said in a video address that world heritage is a shared treasure of human civilization and an important carrier for promoting dialogue and mutual learning among different civilizations. Protecting heritage is a shared responsibility of humanity and an essential requirement for the continuation of civilization and sustainable development. He encouraged youth to become promoters of cultural exchanges, contributors to global development, pioneers in heritage preservation and creative development, and to inject the power of youth into intercultural dialogue and world peace.
