On September 12, the Eighth Dialogue Between the Civilization of China and the LAC was held in Wuxi. This event was jointly hosted by the Foreign Affairs Office of Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government, the Institute of Latin American Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and the Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies under China International Communications Group. Attendees included more than 150 representatives from political, business, and academic circles from nearly 20 countries. Fang Wei, Vice Governor of Jiangsu, and Anyin Choo, ambassador of Guyana to China, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches, while Romeu Zema, Governor of Minas Gerais in Brazil, delivered a video address. Cuban Ambassador to China Alberto Blanco Silva, representatives from the consulates general in Shanghai of several Latin American countries, as well as representatives from political, business, academic, and research circles in China and Latin America, attended the event.

On the opening day of the forum, the Institute of Latin American Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies organized two sub-forums respectively: “People-to-People Exchanges and Cultural Innovation: Building Bridges for Mutual Learning Between Chinese and Latin American Civilizations” and “Ecological Civilization and Sustainable Development: Promoting a Climate-Resilient Future for China and Latin America.” Attendees included 29 think tank experts from Latin American and Caribbean countries. In addition, Wuxi also took the lead in hosting the Jiangsu (Wuxi)-Latin America and Caribbean Countries Economic and Trade Cooperation Exchange Conference, facilitating multiple cooperation intentions between enterprises from both sides.

At the meeting, Fang Wei said that despite the great distance across the ocean, Jiangsu and Latin America are bound by cultural similarities, close ties of friendship, and a strong track record of cooperation. Especially in recent years, amid the deepening development of China-Latin America relations, Jiangsu and Latin America have been closer. Jiangsu is a major economic, cultural, and open province in China. It will firmly implement the spirit of President Xi Jinping’s important speeches and instructions, better leverage the role of the Dialogue Between the Civilization of China and the LAC, continue to work together with Latin American countries as partners, strengthen exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations, enhance mutual understanding and friendship among peoples, jointly cultivate the fertile ground of China-Latin America friendship, sow seeds of China-Latin America friendship across broader horizons, and contribute wisdom and strength to building a China-Latin America community with a shared future.
